Culmore Day
Mason District

Culmore Day Overview
Culmore Community Day, initiated in 2006, has evolved into an annual celebration that strengthens community bonds in Culmore and Bailey’s Crossroads neighborhoods. In 2022, Celebrate Fairfax joined the planning committee, providing valuable event expertise, resources, and educational programming. During the event, over 40 community organizations, government agencies and nonprofits, participated to connect residents with resources spanning healthcare, voting rights, literacy, public safety, and emergency preparedness. Culmore Community Day exemplifies the One Fairfax initiative by promoting inclusivity and equality, ensuring that everyone in the community has access to vital resources.
Additional festivities included diverse cultural performances, interactive art, STEAM programming, and animal displays added vibrancy to the festivities. Emphasizing community safety, Culmore Community Day provides tools for residents to connect with those who patrol and protect the area. The event exemplifies collaborative community efforts, creating a vibrant, connected, and inclusive local community that brings essential resources to the people, leaving them with fun memories and access to what they need.

Impact Outcome Areas
Our work strives to support the 10 Community Outcome Areas included in the Fairfax County Strategic Plan (learn how here!). Culmore Day supports 6 of these outcome areas:
This free event brought the community together to enjoy culture while interacting with neighbors and community groups. In turn, Celebrate Fairfax to supports the development of an enjoyable local community. Additionally, this creates relationships so community members can access the amenities that promote healthy neighborhoods, including residents facing vulnerability.
Attendees have the opportunity to meet, develop relationships, and get information and resources from county agencies and departments, nonprofit organizations, and local small businesses. For these exhibitors, this opportunity to interact is also provided to them at no cost and build awareness about their work before and after the event. The impact areas encompassed by the exhibitors include access to healthcare, voting rights, literacy, public safety, and emergency preparedness.
