June 14 @ 11:00 am - 5:00 pm

In 2021, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors initiated the Black/African American Historical Marker Project to help ensure a more comprehensive and inclusive telling of Fairfax County’s diverse history, including the Black/African American experience. General Colin L. Powell (1937-2021) was the first African American Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the first African American Secretary of State, a Fairfax County resident, and an advocate for underprivileged youth.
