Braddock Bark
Braddock District

Braddock Bark Overview
In a collaborative effort, the Braddock District Supervisor’s office and Celebrate Fairfax organized Braddock Bark, a community event focused on pet adoptions, recreation, and providing resources for pet owners. Attendees enjoyed various activities, from a puppy ball pit and splash zone to kids’ crafts, and a Luring 101 course. Notably, the event showcased 11 non-profit organizations, many featuring adoptable pets seeking loving homes. The funds raised during the event supported the Friends of the Fairfax County Animal Shelter, who offers refuge to over 5000 animals annually. Among the highlighted nonprofits was SevaTruck who served delectable food, collected donations, recruited volunteers, and promoted their mission of providing nutritious meals to local communities in need.
Educational aspects included insights into useful programs and resources such as Fairfax County Department of Emergency Services offering Pet Emergency Kits, and Fairfax Pets On Wheels, which connects pets with people living in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Celebrate Fairfax’s commitment to community building shone through in Braddock Bark, a celebration of the love for pets. The event’s free admission promoted accessibility, enabling a wide audience to partake in the festivities, gain essential pet-related knowledge, and access vital community resources.

Impact Outcome Areas
Our work strives to support the 10 Community Outcome Areas included in the Fairfax County Strategic Plan (learn how here!). Braddock Bark supports 6 of these outcome areas:
This free event brings the Braddock community together at a favorite local venue, Lake Accotink Park, for an afternoon to enjoy recreation and interact with neighbors and community groups. In doing so, this is an opportunity for Celebrate Fairfax to support the development of an enjoyable local community and create relationships so that community members can access the amenities that promote healthy neighborhoods.
Attendees have the opportunity to meet, develop relationships, and get information and resources from local elected officials and their staff, county agencies and departments, nonprofit organizations, and local small businesses. For these exhibitors, this opportunity to interact is also provided to them at no cost. The impact areas encompassed by the exhibitors include healthy communities, sustainability, public safety, and emergency preparedness.
