
Celebrate National Digital Inclusion Week in Fairfax County with this new a pilot program from Celebrate Fairfax that provides up to ten events or programs with $500 to support digital inclusion. The purpose of these events should be to promote digital literacy, access to technology, and equitable participation in the digital age among the residents of Fairfax County.
National Digital Inclusion Week 2023 is celebrated from October 2nd- 6th, with this year’s theme Building Connected Communities. in short, digital inclusion means making sure everyone can benefit from the internet and technology, regardless of their background or income, with disadvantaged communities are at risk of being left further behind if they’re not supported to fully embrace the digital age.

Why is Celebrate Fairfax supporting digital inclusion?
A digitally inclusive Fairfax County community is a vital part of our work to build a vibrant community. Digital inclusion is a key driver for economic and workforce development, civic participation, education, healthcare, and public safety, all key impact areas for our work. We are further fulfilling our mission to work in partnership with other local nonprofits, community groups, and agencies, and engaging the community through the awardees events. We look forward to seeing the results we can achieve as a community in this important area!
Who can apply?
Applicants must be a registered nonprofit organization, community-based organization, or Fairfax County Government agency affiliate.
Organizations must be located within Fairfax County, Virginia, or demonstrate that they serve the residents of Fairfax County directly.
What kind of event should I host?
The event should prominently emphasize promoting digital equity and inclusion, addressing barriers faced in accessing technology and digital resources.
Events must take place between October 2 – 6, 2023.

What information is needed to apply?
Applicants must submit a 1-to-2-page proposal for the event they intend to organize during Digital Inclusion Week. The event should prominently emphasize promoting digital equity and inclusion, addressing barriers faced in accessing technology and digital resources.
The proposal includes 8 questions requesting information on the following:
1. Event Description
– Include event objectives, anticipated outcomes and how the event aligns with the goals of Digital Inclusion Week.
2. Event Details
– Include the proposed event format, schedule, duration, etc.
3. Target Audience & Anticipated Attendance
4. Event Promotion Strategies
– Provide a marketing/promotion plan for how the event will be publicized. If available, provide quantities, and data points.
5. Budget/Expenses:
– Provide anticipated expenses and how the grant funds will be utilized. Categories may include venue rental, technology equipment, promotional materials, personnel costs, and any other relevant expenses.
6. Engagement:
– Describe how the event will engage the local community and encourage active participation from diverse demographic groups. Highlight any partnerships or collaborations that enhance community engagement.
7. Event Impact:
– Provide a plan and metrics for how you plan to measure the impact the event has on digital inclusion and how you will evaluate the success of the event. For example: number of attendees, digital skills acquired, technology access provided, etc.
8. Event Accessibility:
– Explain how the event will ensure accessibility for individuals with disabilities, including providing assistive technologies, accessible venue spaces, etc.
When is the deadline to apply?
Application deadline is September 18th, 2023. Awardees will be notified by September 29th, 2023.
How are awardees selected?
A review committee comprising of representatives from relevant stakeholders will evaluate applications based on the stated criteria. Applications will be evaluated based on the event proposal’s alignment with Digital Inclusion Week’s goals, potential impact to Fairfax County residents, community engagement strategies and completion of answering the grant application’s requirements.

Be a Celebrate Fairfax Community Grant partner!
Make an impact as a grant partner and help narrow the digital divide in Fairfax County through these community-based events. We are seeking sponsorship in the form of funds ranging from $500 to $5,000 to increase the support to the grant applicants. Sponsors will be recognized across Celebrate Fairfax’s marketing channels, including website, social media and e-newsletter with a customized packaged based on donation amount.
