SUMMARY:You Are Not Alone 5k Fun Run
DESCRIPTION:This fun run is tailored as a community outreach event\, bringing together local community-based resources focused on wellness\, mental health\, and suicide prevention. \n\n\n\nConnerStrong Foundation\, in partnership with Supervisor Rodney Lusk’s office (Franconia District Supervisor) and Celebrate Fairfax\, are proud to partner in our 1st Fun Run event! On hand will also be local community-based resources and organizations who provide various wellness\, mental health and suicide prevention goods and services. \n\n\n\nSince we know there are several basic needs that can influence mental health (i.e. – homelessness\, unemployment\, hunger\, etc.) our goal for this event is to make aware of the resources available in our community to the residents and address one such critical need – lack of food and clothing. \n\n\n\nAll of the non-perishable food and monies raised from this event will be going to help two local community food banks\, Koinonia & United Community. These two organizations provide services to disadvantaged residents in Franconia District and serve over 22\,000 families annually. \n\n\n\nSponsorships\, race registration and more information here- https://raceroster.com/…/you-are-not-alone-5k-fun-run \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nClick here for event flyer \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nhttps://raceroster.com/…/you-are-not-alone-5k-fun-run

SUMMARY:Friday After 5
DESCRIPTION:UPDATE 6/16 at 1:30pm \n\n\n\nThe community’s safety is our top priority. Due to a high chance of severe thunderstorms forecasted for this evening\, we have made the difficult decision to postpone tonight’s concert. We are working on rescheduling the event and hope to have a new date identified in the coming days. \n\n\n\nStay tuned for details. \n\n\n\nThe Tysons Community Alliance (TCA) presents Friday After 5! From June through August\, the TCA is producing a jazz music series on the third Friday of the month from 5-8 PM. We are happy to be partnering with them on the first concert to kick off the series\, which will be held at The PARC at Tysons! This event will feature local jazz vocalist Akua Allrich. Bring a chair\, pack a picnic\, or grab dinner and dessert from one of the food trucks on site. \n\n\n\nAbout the artist: \n\n\n\nJazz vocalist and DC-native Akua Allrich has proven herself to be a musician of extraordinary talent and crowd-moving passion. With finesse and charisma\, this vocalist\, composer and teacher\, has successfully etched out a place for her unique musical expression\, electrifying audiences in and around the nation’s capital with sold-out performances. \n\n\n\nAllrich’s style is fluid and ever evolving. Her musical roots run deeply into blues\, soul and rhythm and blues\, with a clear grounding in jazz and pan-African music. She sings in many languages including Portuguese\, French\, Spanish\, English\, Xhosa\, and Twi. Given her ability to capture the essence of a broad range of musical genres\, Allrich is often likened to legendary artists such as Oscar Brown\, Jr.\, Miriam Makeba and Nina Simone.

SUMMARY:Eileen Garnett Civic Space - Grand Opening
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Fairfax is proud to be part of another community building initiative\, the Eileen Garnett Civic Space. In addition to serving on the planning committee\, we are also an In-Kind Sponsor\, providing equipment for the event. \n\n\n\nFairfax County will host a ribbon cutting ceremony and a variety of programming in celebration of the park’s debut. There will be family-friendly activities\, information tables\, and speeches to commemorate the opening of the new exceptional community space. \n\n\n\nThis space is an example of placemaking efforts in our community\, where a property is repurposed using community input into an innovative public space.  The Community Revitalization Section of the Fairfax County Department of Planning looks to the placemaking power of such projects as a way to bring people together and contribute to the vibrancy of an area.
